2004-07-04 - 9:13 a.m. I saw an aerial photo of Vancouver from last August. It was of East Van: the PNE, Iron Workers', my parents neighbourhood. Everything was brown. There were green trees, but all the grass was brown. That's how things are starting to look now: a light, parched yellow brown; our green city withering in the sun. We used to be able to play in the sprinkler to stay cool in the summer, but it never used to get hot like this. Now you can't even turn the sprinkler on. *** There were girls on the corner near the Burrard SkyTrain station handing out little cards for some restaraunt. I should have asked if they work there, and when they'll be working next. *** My air conditioner is still broken. I shut off all the lights, leave the off, it still gets too hot. I should go to my parents and hang out in the basement. The basement would never get very hot.
